This year, one of our main tasks is laying the ground work to build the Little Farm out. For the housing type we're doing and for livestock we had to rezone the plot to an agriculture/residential zoning. We started the application process earlier in the year and put it off for a little bit to sort out if we wanted AR-1 or agriculture tourism. We landed on AR-1 as a starting point then submitted the paperwork and check. The clerks at the county office have been so helpful.
We had the Board of Commissioner's meeting at the end of September who voted to approve a recommendation for approval. Basically, the meeting we went to isn't the actual vote to approve but to basically suggest to the actual Board that they should approve. I don't know when that vote will occur but currently the notion is that this is good.
God is so great.
In terms of projects, just getting the mowing equipment running reliably has been a real challenge. The Massey Ferguson 135 continues to have a fueling issue. The lawn tractor is finally running regularly but the deck's belt system broke an idler pulley spring during the first day of testing. I have a replacement spring that on the next day I will take out and finish mowing.
We have a big swing that we'll hang from the one of the massive trees on the property. We cleared a path back to the tree and the area around it but there is much more clean up work to do. I'd like to open up the view more but I think a forestry mulcher is the best choice for it.
I've started putting in fence now the the property borders are mostly clear of man-made things but putting in 6 inch posts is hard work so it's very slow going. I literally only have one post in the ground. I still need to clear out trees and brush along the edge.
I also have my venison jerky recipe dialed in and it's a hit. I just use commercially available seasonings but its good. I can't keep my hand out of the bag and I've made some from about 6 lbs of ground at this point. I need to go get a few does this year but I found out that I will likely have surgery about a week before opening day this year and won't be able to do any heavy lifting for about 2 weeks. That makes me sad since I really want to get the Marlin 1894 out in the woods but I'd rather have the surgery. Mostly because of the fertility issue I have and I'd rather have kids.
There have been a few updates and more to come. Stick around.
